What pleases God

 

All of have certain things that bring us joy – things that please us in some way or another.  And even though most of us probably don’t think about it, the same thing is true of God.  There are a number of verses in the Bible that refer to things that are, “Pleasing to God,” or  “His delight” or “His good pleasure.”  And as we read through these passages they give us considerable insight into the personality and nature of God.  With this in mind, consider the following verses:

Numbers 24:1 

“Balaam saw that it pleased the Lord to bless Israel…”

1 Chronicles 29:17 

“I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity.”
Psalm 33:5

“The Lord loves righteousness and justice.”

Psalm 35:27

“The LORD be exalted, who delights in the well-being of his servant”

Psalm 147:11

“The Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love”

Psalm 69:30-31

“I will praise God's name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving. This will please the Lord…”

Psalm 149:4 (Isaiah 62:5, 65:19, Ephesians 1:6)

“The Lord takes pleasure in His people…”

Proverbs 11:1

“The Lord abhors dishonest scales, but accurate weights are his delight.”

Proverbs 11:20

“The Lord detests men of perverse heart but he delights in those whose ways are blameless.”

Proverbs 12:22

“Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal faithfully are His delight.”

Proverbs 15:8

“The prayer of the upright is His delight.”

Isaiah 42:21

“It pleased the Lord for the sake of his righteousness to make his law great and glorious.”

Jeremiah 9:24

“I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight.”

Jeremiah 32:38,41

“They will be my people, and I will be their God… I will rejoice in doing them good.”

Micah 7:18

“You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy.”

Matthew 3:17

“This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

Matthew 11:25-26

“You have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children…  for this was your good pleasure.”

Luke 12:32

“Do not be afraid little flock, your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.”

1 Corinthians 1:21

“God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.”

Eph 1:5

“He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to his pleasure”

Ephesians 1:9

“He made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure”

Colossians 1:19-20

“It was the Father's good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself.”

Colossians 3:20

“Children, be obedient to your parents in all things, for this is well-pleasing to the Lord.”

Hebrews 11:6

“Without faith it is impossible to please God.”
