Zion Promises The Bible contains many promises
about Zion. When viewed altogether
these promises paint a picture of what life is like in the city “whose architect and
builder is God.” With God Himself as both its builder and
King, Zion’s inhabitants enjoy life the way God meant it to be. As you read over these promises,
understand them to be timeless expressions of life the way God wants it to be
for all his children. Psalm 48:1-3 "Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised, in the city
of our God, in the mountain of His holiness.
Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth is Mount Zion in
the far north, the city of the great king.
God has made Himself known in her palaces as a stronghold."
"...The city of our God; God will establish her forever." Psalm 50:2 "Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God has
shined." Psalm 69:35-36 "God will save Zion and build the cities of Judah... the
descendants of His servants will inherit it, and those who love His name will
dwell in it." (Isaiah 57:13,65:9) Psalm 78:68 "He [God] chose... Mount Zion, which He loved." Psalm 87:2 "The Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the other
dwelling places of Jacob." Psalm 87:5 "Of Zion it shall be said, 'this one and that one were
born in her'; and The Most High Himself will establish her." Psalm 102:16 "When the Lord shall build up Zion, He shall appear in
His glory." Psalm 110:2 "The Lord will stretch forth your [Jesus'] strong scepter
from Zion saying, 'Rule in the midst of your enemies!'" Psalm 125:1 "Those who trust in The Lord are as Mount Zion, which
cannot be moved, but abides forever." Psalm 126:1-2 "When the Lord brought back the captives to Zion, we were
like those who dream. Then our mouth
was filled with laughter and our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, 'The
Lord has done great things for them.' The Lord has done great things for us;
We are filled with joy!" Psalm 132:13-18 "The Lord has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His
dwelling place. This is my rest, here
will I dwell forever." (9:11; 76:2; Isaiah 8:18; Joel 3:21) I will abundantly bless her provision, I
will satisfy her needy with bread. I
will clothe her priests with salvation, and her godly ones will sing aloud
for joy. There I will make the Horn
of David to spring forth; I have prepared a lamp for my anointed. I will
clothe his enemies with same, but upon himself shall his crown
flourish." Psalm 133:3 "...Upon the mountains of Zion, there the Lord commanded
the blessing - life forever." Psalm 147:12-13 "Praise your God oh Zion! For He has strengthened the bars of your gates; He has blessed
your sons within you. He makes peace
within your borders; He satisfies you with the finest of wheat." Psalm 149:2-4 "Let the sons of Zion rejoice in their King. Let them praise His name with dancing, let
them sing praises to Him with timbrel and lyre. For the Lord takes pleasure in His people." Isaiah 2:2-3 "…The mountain of the house of the Lord shall be
established at the head of the mountains, and exalted above the hills and all
nations will stream to it. And many
peoples will come and say, 'come and let us go up to the mountain of the
Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob, that He may teach us of His ways, and
that we may walk in his paths.' For the law will go forth from Zion, and the
word of the Lord from Jerusalem." (Micah 4:1-2) Isaiah 4:3 "He who is left in Zion and remains in Jerusalem will be
called holy..." Isaiah 4:5-6 "Then the Lord will create over the whole area of Mount
Zion and over her dwelling places a cloud by day, even smoke, and the
brightness of a flaming fire by night; for over all the glory will be a
canopy. There will be a shelter to
give shade from the heat by day, and refuge and a hiding place from the storm
and the rain." Isaiah 10:24 "...Thus says the Lord God of Hosts, 'Oh my people who
dwell in Zion, do not fear the Assyrian who strikes you with the rod and
lifts up his staff against you.
For... The Lord of Hosts will arouse a scourge against him... in that
day his burden will be removed from your shoulders and his yoke from your
neck, and the yoke will be broken because of fatness." Isaiah 11:9 "They [cobras and vipers] will not hurt or destroy in all
my Holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as
the waters cover the sea." Isaiah 12:6 "Cry aloud and shout for joy, oh inhabitant of Zion, for
great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel." Isaiah 14:32 "The Lord has founded Zion, and the afflicted of His
people will seek refuge in it." Isaiah 24:23 "The Lord of Hosts will reign on Mount Zion..." Isaiah 25:6-10 "On this mountain the Lord of Hosts will prepare a feast
of fat things for all peoples. A
banquet of aged wine, choice pieces with marrow and refined, aged wine. And on this mountain He will swallow up
the covering, which is over all peoples, even the veil which is woven over
all the nations. He will swallow up
death for all time... and it will be said in that day, 'this is our God for
whom we have waited, let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation,' for the
hand of the Lord will rest on this mountain..." Isaiah 30:19-21 "Oh people in Zion, inhabitant in Jerusalem, you will
weep no longer. He will surely be
gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when He hears it, He will answer
you... your teacher will no longer hide himself, but your eyes will behold
your teacher. Your ears will hear a
word behind you, 'This is the way walk in it,' whenever you turn to the right
or to the left." Isaiah 31:4-5 "...The lord of Hosts come down to wage war on Mount Zion
and on its hill... He will protect and deliver it, He will pass over and
rescue it." Isaiah 33:20 "Look upon Zion, the city of our appointed feasts... an
undisturbed habitation, a tent which will not be folded; its stakes will
never be pulled up, nor any of its cords be torn apart. There the Majestic one, the Lord will be
for us a place of rivers and wide canals on which no boat with oars will go,
and on which no mighty ship will pass." Isaiah 33:24 "No resident will say, 'I am sick.' The people who dwell
there will be forgiven their iniquity." Isaiah 35:10 "The ransomed of the Lord will return and come with
joyful shouting to Zion, with everlasting joy upon their heads. They will find gladness and joy, and

good news, lift up your voice mightily... do not fear. Say to the cities of Judah, 'Here is your
God!'" Isaiah 46:13 "I bring near my righteousness, it is not far off and My
salvation will not delay. And I will
grant salvation in Zion, and My glory for Israel." Isaiah 49:15-16 "...I will not forget you [Zion]. Behold, I have inscribed you on my palms;
your walls are continually before me... those who destroyed you and laid you
waste go forth from you... you will be too cramped for your people, and those
who devoured you will be far from you." Isaiah 51:3 "The Lord will surely comfort Zion and will look with
compassion on all her ruins; He will make her deserts like Eden, her
wastelands like the garden of the Lord." Isaiah 52:1-2 "Awake, awake, clothe yourself in your strength, oh Zion,
clothe yourself in your beautiful garments, oh Jerusalem, the holy city. For the uncircumcised and the unclean will
no longer come into you. Shake
yourself from the dust, rise up, oh captive Jerusalem; loose yourself from
the chains around your neck, oh captive daughter of Zion." Isaiah 52:7 "How lovely on the mountains are the feet of him who
brings goon news, who announces peace and brings good news of happiness, who
announces salvation, and says to Zion, 'Your God reigns!'... When the Lord
restores Zion. Break forth, shout
joyfully together, you waste places of Jerusalem; for the Lord has comforted
His people, He has redeemed Jerusalem.
The Lord has bared His holy arm in the sight of all the nations, that
all the ends of the earth may see the salvation of our God." Isaiah 56:6-7 "...The foreigners who join themselves to the Lord to
minister to Him, and to love the name of the Lord, to be His servants, every
one who keeps from profaning the Sabbath and holds fast My covenant; even
those I will bring to My holy mountain and make them joyful in My house of
prayer. Their burnt offerings and
their sacrifices will be acceptable on My altar; for My house will be called
a house of prayer for all the peoples." Isaiah 57:13 "...He who takes refuge in Me will inherit the land and
will possess My holy mountain." Isaiah 60:1-5 "Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of
the Lord has risen upon you. For
behold, darkness will cover the earth and deep darkness the peoples; but the
Lord will rise upon you and His glory will appear upon you. Nations will come to your light, and kings
to the brightness of your rising.
Lift up your eyes round about and see; they all gather together, they
come to you. Your sons will come from
afar, and your daughters will be carried in the arms. Then you will see and be radiant, and your
heart will thrill and rejoice; because the abundance of the sea will be
turned to you, the wealth of the nations will come to you." Isaiah 60:9-11 "...The ships of Tarshish will come first, to bring your sons
from afar, their silver and their gold with them, for the name of the Lord
your God, and for the Holy One of Israel because He has beautified you. Foreigners will build up your walls, and
their kings will minister to you... Your gates will be open continually; they
will not be closed day or night, so that men may bring to you the wealth of
the nations, with their kings led in procession." Isaiah 60:14 "...They will call you the city of the Lord, the Zion of
the Holy One of Israel." Isaiah 60:15-22 "...I will make you an everlasting pride, a joy form
generation to generation. You will
suck the milk of nations and suck the breast of kings; then you will know
that I the Lord, am your Savior and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of
Jacob. Instead of bronze I will bring
gold, instead of iron I will bring silver, and instead of wood, bronze, and
instead of stones, iron. And I will
make peace your administrators and righteousness your overseers. Violence will not be heard again in your
land, nor devastation or destruction within your borders; But you will call
your walls salvation, and your gates praise.
No longer will you have the sun for light by day, nor for brightness
will the moon give you light; But you will have the Lord for an everlasting
light, and your God for your glory.
Your sun will no longer set, nor will your moon wane; for you will
have the Lord for an everlasting light, and the days of your mourning will be
over. Then all your people will be
righteous; they will possess the land forever, the branch of My planting, the
work of My hands, that I may be glorified." Isaiah 61:6-7 "...You will be called the priests of the Lord; you will
be spoken of as ministers of our God.
You will eat the wealth of nations; and in their riches you will
boast... they will shout for joy over their portion... they will possess
double in their land, everlasting joy will be theirs." Isaiah 61:9 "Then their offspring will be known among the nations,
and their descendants in the midst of the peoples. All who see them will recognize them because they are the
offspring whom the Lord has blessed." Isaiah 62:1-5 "For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, and for
Jerusalem's sake I will not keep quiet, until her righteousness goes forth
like brightness, and her salvation like a torch that is burning. The nations will see your righteousness,
and all kings your glory; and you will be called by a new name which the
mouth of the Lord will designate. You
will also be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in
the hand of your God... you will be called ' my delight is in her,' and your
land, 'married'; for the Lord delights in you, and your land will be married.
For as a young man marries a virgin, so your sons will marry you; and as the
bridegroom rejoices over the bride, your God will rejoice over you." Isaiah 62:12 "...They will call them [the 'daughter of Zion'] 'The holy people, the redeemed of the
Lord'; and you will be called, 'Sought out, a city not forsaken'." Jeremiah 3:14-15 "...I will bring you to Zion. Then I will give you shepherds after My own heart, who will
feed you on knowledge and understanding." Jeremiah 31:6 "...Arise, let us go to Zion, to the Lord our God." Jeremiah 31:11-14 "The Lord has ransomed Jacob and redeemed him from the hand
of him who was stronger than he. They
will come and shout for joy on the height of Zion, and they will be radiant
over the goodness of the Lord - over the grain and the new wine and the oil,
and over the young of the flock and the herd; and their life will be like a
watered garden, and they will never languish again. Then the virgin will rejoice in the dance, and the young men
and the old, together, for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will
comfort them and give them joy for their sorrow. I will saturate the soul of the priests with fatness, and My
people will satisfied with My goodness, declares the Lord." Jeremiah 31:23 "...The Lord bless you, dwelling place of righteousness,
holy hill." Jeremiah 51:10 "The Lord has brought forth our righteousness; come and
let us declare in Zion the work of our God!" Joel 2:32 "...On mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be those
who escape..." Joel 3:16-17 "The Lord roars from Zion and utters His voice from
Jerusalem, and the heavens and the earth tremble. But the Lord is a refuge for His people and a stronghold to the
sons of Israel. Then you will know
that I am the Lord your God, dwelling in Zion, My holy mountain..." Obadiah 17: "...On Mount Zion there will be those who escape, and it
will be holy." Micah 4:1-2 "…The mountain of the house of the Lord shall be
established at the head of the mountains, and exalted above the hills and all
nations will stream to it. And many
peoples will come and say, 'come and let us go up to the mountain of the
Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob, that He may teach us of His ways, and
that we may walk in his paths.' For
the law will go forth from Zion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem."
Micah 4:4 "Each of them will sit under his vine and under his fig
tree, with no one to make them afraid, for the mouth of the Lord of Hosts has
spoken." Micah 4:6-8 "...I will assemble the lame and gather the outcasts... I
will make the lame a remnant and the outcasts a strong nation, and the Lord
will reign over them in Mount Zion from now on and forever. As for you, tower of the flock, hill of
the daughter of Zion, to you it will come even the former dominion will come,
the kingdom of the daughter of Jerusalem." Micah 4:13 "Arise and thresh, daughter of Zion, for your horn I will
make iron, and your hoofs I will make bronze, that you may pulverize many
peoples, that you may devote to the Lord their unjust gain, and their wealth
to the Lord of all the earth." Zephaniah 3:14-17 "Shout for joy, oh daughter of Zion! Shout oh Israel! Rejoice and exult with all your heart, oh daughter of
Jerusalem! The Lord has taken away
His judgments against you. He has cleared away your enemies. The King of Israel, the Lord, is in your
midst; You will fear disaster no more.
In that day it will be said to Jerusalem: 'Do not be afraid, oh Zion; do not let your hands fall
limp. The Lord your God is in your
midst, a victorious warrior. He will
exult over you with joy, He will renew you in His love, He will shout over
you with shouts of joy." Zephaniah 3:20 "...I will give you renown and praise among all the
peoples of the earth." Zechariah 2:7-8 "Ho, Zion!
Escape, you who are living with the daughter of Babylon. For thus says the Lord of Hosts, 'After
the glory He has sent me against the nations which plunder you, for he who
touches you, touches the apple of His eye." Zechariah 2:10 "Sing for joy and be glad, oh daughter of Zion, for
behold I am coming and I will dwell in your midst, declares The Lord." Zechariah 8:2-3 "...I am exceedingly jealous for Zion, yes, with great
wrath I am jealous for her... I will return to Zion and will dwell in the
midst of Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem
will be called, 'The city of Truth' and, the mountain of the Lord of Hosts
will be called, 'The holy Mountain'." Zechariah 9:9-10 "Rejoice greatly Oh daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph... Behold your king is
coming to you; He is just and endowed with salvation... His dominion will be
from sea to sea, and for the River to the ends of the earth." Zechariah 9:13-14 "I will bend Judah as my bow, I will fill the bow with
Ephraim, and I will stir up your sons, oh Zion... and I will make you like a
warrior's sword. Then the Lord will
appear over them, and His arrow will go forth like lightning... The Lord of
hosts will defend them. And they will
devour and trample... and The Lord their God will save them in that day as
the flock of His people; for they are
as the stones of a crown, sparkling in His land. What goodness and beauty will be theirs! Grain will make the young men flourish and
new wine the virgins." Hebrews 12:22 "...You
have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly
Jerusalem..." |
